SUBMITTING TO SHOWS
In order to submit artwork to Victoria Chapter shows you must be a member in good standing of the FCA. That is, you must have paid your annual dues to both the chapter and the national body. If you are unsure of your status with the Victoria Chapter, contact Barb Sapergia at sapergiab@shaw.ca. If you have questions about your status with the national body, contact them at fcaadmin@artists.ca.
VICTORIA SHOWS
Each year the Victoria Chapter of the FCA holds two adjudicated (juried) shows, one in the spring and another in the fall. These shows provide Active and Signature Members of the chapter with a venue to present their work to the public, a chance to measure their development over the past year, and an opportunity to compete for the honours of the show. As well, acceptance in a juried chapter show can help an artist meet the national requirements for Signature Membership status (see Membership in the ABOUT page).
Before the Show
The Call for Submissions, in addition to announcing the show, also provides important information on the size and number of pieces permitted by each artist; the rules related to previously shown work*; timeframes and important dates of the show; adjudication location, process and costs; and the deadline for submissions.
*The rules related to ‘previously shown work’ govern the number of times a single piece of work can be submitted and accepted to more than one show.

Sample Generic Submission Form (updated Mar 2016)
The adjudication process of the Victoria Chapter is a physical process, as opposed to a digital one. It requires a drop-off of submitted art at a particular location on a specific date. Although it requires more effort, in insures that the jurors are able to assess each work accuratley.
Paintings submitted to shows must include a completed submission form. Submission forms and payments can now be completed online or alternately, members can print the form, fill it out and bring it with them to the drop off.
It is expected that all artwork submitted for adjudication will meet FCA established standards.

POLICY CHANGE – please read the following carefully as it may affect whether your art work will be accepted at future shows. The Victoria Chapter of the FCA has a specific set of standards that govern how your artwork must be matted and framed when it is to be hung at one of our shows. If your art work does not meet the Standards outlined below (Standards and Guidelines for Matting and Framing Paintings), it will not be accepted for hanging. Recently, the following changes were made to the Standards:
UNFRAMED canvasses or wood panels must have all sides painted and the staples must be on the back of the stretcher bars for canvas. Canvas paintings and wood panels that are less than 1.5 inches deep must be framed.

The Show
The Show Opening provides a focus for the presentation of awards and an opportunity for the public to meet the artists and view their work. Chapter members are expected, where possible, to contribute to the Opening by providing food and assisting with the set-up and take-down of the event. Depending on where the show is located, a gallery may ask members to take turns ‘sitting’ (volunteer supervision/sales etc.) for the show when there are no gallery staff in attendance.
It takes a substantial effort on the part of ALL members (whether they have art work accepted to the show or not) to make a show successful. Participation by all members at the opening reception helps support both the artists with work in the show and the Chapter in general. In addition, publicity for the show is dependent on everyone making an effort to send out email invitations to their family, friends and mailing list, as well as to physically distribute the rack cards produced for the event.
After the Show
The Pick-up of Artwork. Those pieces that remain unsold after the show must be picked-up at the location and time indicated on the Submission Form.
